Erosion Control & Stormwater Management Permitting

Dane County Planning and Development enforces shoreland, wetland, and floodplain zoning for all rural areas of the County.  If you are planning a new house, driveway, structure, breaking out new land to crop, cleaning out fencelines, digging or grading with heavy equipment in a field, ditch, or elsewhere, please refer to the information sheet linked below regarding erosion control and stormwater management permits.

It is beneficial to determine whether an activity requires a permit before the work takes place.  Once you begin the work and a permit is required, fees are doubled.

Dredging an agricultural ditch?  Repairing/Installing drain tile?  Breaking out new land?
Review this checklist before beginning these projects.  Skipping steps may lead to enforcement.
